Xcel Energy plans to install 4.5 miles of new natural gas line in Fargo and West Fargo. This project will accommodate and support area growth to continue to serve existing and new customers and enhance system resiliency during cold weather events.
This project will be constructed as part of Xcel Energy’s commitment to system revitalization and will allow Xcel Energy to continue to provide the safe, reliable natural gas service our customers expect.
Preconstruction efforts began in 2020. We plan to begin construction in spring 2021 and complete the project in fall 2021.
Please note that construction schedules are subject to change.
Crews will install the natural gas line using a combination of open trenching and boring. Open trenching involves digging a trench and placing the natural gas line in the trench. Boring involves using a bore machine to create an underground pathway through which the natural gas line is pulled or drilled.
Prior to starting construction, you may notice marking of utility lines and “potholing” to verify their locations.
During construction, we will take measures to reduce potential public inconveniences that may include:
- Partial or complete road or sidewalk closures.
- Traffic control measures including flaggers and detours.
- Temporary changes to site access.
- Elevated levels of noise and presence of heavy equipment.
Prior to completing activities for the year, we will restore work areas to preconstruction conditions.
Please note permanent restoration requires specific weather conditions for proper settling of materials and regrowth of landscaping and plants. Work completed under colder conditions may be restored temporarily as we wait for more favorable restoration conditions and warmer temperatures. We will return to restore outstanding items once conditions allow.
